The history covers the early days of Jesus Music in the 1970s, the dominance of Inspirational Music in the 1980s, the emergence of Adult Contemporary in the 1990s, and the increasing stylistic diversification of recent years. It includes chapters on controversial topics such as crossing over, ministry vs. entertainment, and the use of instruments in church services. An extensive discography and a comprehensive bibliography are also included.
