Three Arraigned in Winans' Carjacking

Two Detroit residents, Montoya Givens (20) and Christopher Moorehead (also 20) and Brian K. Young (18), of Clinton Township were arraigned on Sunday and charged with carjacking, unarmed robbery and conspiracy in the attack on Pastor Marvin Winans. Bond was set for $200,000 for each.

On June 1, there will be a preliminary hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for the case to go to trial.

Trip Lee has a Book in the Works

Christian rap fans know Trip Lee as the man behind "Robot," "The Invasion" and "Between Two Worlds" (among other great songs). On October 1, 2012, the rest of the world will get to meet him as the author of his first book, titled The Good Life. The book will augment his latest album, also titled The Good Life, which released on April 10, 2012 on Reach Records.

In a press release, Trip talked about the book, saying, "For years, I've been doing music that challenges our world views and points to Christ - but there have always been limitations to music, because there's only so much you can communicate in a song. The album gave listeners snapshots of the good life, and the book will be more like a manual on how to live it. I'm praying that this book will help the reader to turn away from lies and live the way we were created to live."

Explaining what "the good life" really is, Trip went on to say that it's "living in sync with God and embracing all that He has to offer us in Christ" rather than the popular world view of "climbing to the top of the corporate ladder" as well as "a life free from any responsibility."

Pastor Marvin Winans Carjacked

On Wednesday afternoon, Pastor Marvin Winans stopped to get gas at a Detroit gas station. As he was filling up his 2012 Infiniti QX56, the everyday event turned dangerous. Four young men approached the gospel music maker and one asked about what was playing on Winans' radio. As Pastor Winans answered him, another one of the men attacked him from behind. When it was over, Winans' was bruised, scraped up and had a broken finger. The youths fled with his SUV, a $15,000 Rolex watch, an Iphone, a briefcase and and a wallet containing $200, police said.

On Thursday, Pastor Winans' vehicle was recovered in good condition and two of the four (ages 17 and 20) were arrested. The fear this attack spurred, however, lives on. Residents in Detroit's northeast side say that they're scared to go outside, even in broad daylight. As the Detroit Police crime statistics show, (25 crimes were reported within a mile radius where Winans was attacked, including 10 assaults and two other carjackings from May 10 - May 16), they appear to have good reason to be afraid.

As for Marvin Winans, he is thankful to God that he is alive today but saddened that it happened and that at no time during the afternoon attack, any bystanders did a single thing to help.

2012 Billboard Music Awards

The countdown to the 2012 Billboard Music Awards is on. This coming Sunday, (May 20th), at 8:00 p.m. ET, the awards will air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on ABC.

In the Christian artist category, Casting Crowns comes in on top with four nominations. Laura Story is next with three, followed by Skillet, who got two nods.

Congrats to Montell Jordan

Montell Jordan and his wife Kristin, the proud parents of three children, Christopher, 23; Sydney, 16 (who is a vocalist with Victory World Music); and Skyler, 8, welcomed their fourth child into the world on Tuesday. Samantha Victoria Jordan, who has already been nicknamed Lady Bug, was born at 4:36 pm on May 15th, weighing 6 pounds, 14.2 ounces and measuring 19 inches long.

The worship leader at Victory World Church and CCM recording artist said, "It's hard to imagine how someone so big can be wrapped around a finger so small. This little girl is a reminder of God's hands always at work in all our lives, and another reminder for me in my role as a father trying to be like our Heavenly Father."

Happy birthday to Sonny Sandoval from P.O.D., who turns 38 today and Tonex, who turns 37 today.

This coming Friday, three more Christian artists have birthdays. Barry Graul of MercyMe, Francesca Battistelli and Michael Tait will all be celebrating their big days on Friday. Then, on Saturday, Marcos Witt will celebrate his 50th birthday.

Plane Crash Takes the Lives of Four

Austin Anderson, (27) Garrett Coble, (29), Stephen Luth, (22) and Hannah Luce (22) were all passengers on their way to the last Acquire The Fire event in Council Bluffs, Iowa in a twin engine Cessna 401 being piloted by Luke Sheets (23) on Friday. NTSB spokesman Peter Knudson said that the pilot got permission to descend to a lower altitude and then the tower lost contact with the pilot. The Kansas Highway Patrol said that shortly afterwards, the plane landed in a field, skidded 200 feet and hit a tree line, catching on fire. The crash occurred about nine miles west of Chanute, Kansas.

Coble, Luth and Sheets were killed in the crash. Austin Anderson, a decorated Marine who served two tours in Iraq, was critically injured, but he managed to pull Luce from the wreckage. He died from his injuries in a hospital in Wichita early the next morning.

Hannah, the daughter of Teen Mania Ministries founder Ron Luce, is in serious but stable condition in a hospital in Kansas City with burns to 28% of her body.
