'More Life' - More of the Same Great Newsong Sound
Newsong's Michael O'Brien described the sound More Life as "basically Newsong's never really cuts any new songs like, stylistically, we're pretty much the same. It's pop/soul music and we're just having a good time..." in an August interview.More Life could be described as the same old sound, but it would be truer to call it more of the same great sound. It's been three years since they released a new CD and this one was definitely worth the wait. Twelve great songs, one of which is a beautiful duet with Natalie Grant, make up one awesome sounding album.
"Back Where You Belong" is a call to people who have wandered off the path, who've gotten lost in the shuffle. "Cherish" is an acoustic, guitar-driven love song to God that really puts things into perspective. "Life in My Day" is a reminder that we need more life in our days instead of more time to waste in our lives. "Emmaus Love" is about having an everyday walk with God and seeing things through his eyes rather than through our own. "It's Not Far" (my personal favorite), was inspired by Eddie Carswell's step-father, a man named Howard Johnson. Howard, who was a huge factor in Eddie's life, was very ill at the time and while sitting at his bedside, Eddie realized that in a blink he could be with Jesus. The incident reminded him that it's never far from here to Jesus.
'More Life' - The Songs
"When Love Broke Through" is a Keith Greene song that tells another great story. "Yea God" is basically a cheer for God and a reminder that He is always there for us. "When God Made You" (duet with Natalie Grant, awesome song) was written by Eddie Carswell for his daughter's wedding. "He Did What I Couldn't Do" (another favorite) talks about how Jesus came to live a perfect, sin-free life to save us, something that we couldn't do for ourselves. "For the Glory of Christ" is what the band calls a "Statement we wanted to make" about how they want to live their lives, for the glory of Christ. "You Are My King/Amazing Love" was originally recorded on the WOW Worship yellow CD. "Your Favorite Name is Father" is a truly soothing song that reminds us who our Father really is.
