Kim: Something that my band has talked about is how when you're in a different place and you're only there for one night, if God uses your music to lead someone to Him, you're not there the next day to follow up. You can't stick around and help someone grow from being a baby Christian. After a lot of prayer we've come to the realization that trust is the issue there. You have to rely on and trust God to take care of what happens after you go. A "you catch them, He'll clean them" sort of thing.
Vince: That's a hard part for me too. I was a youth pastor for three years. I was in a band, GS Megaphone, before now. We were Front Line Revival, and then they became GS Megaphone. I left at that point to become a youth pastor. God called me to be a youth pastor, and then He called me out of it three years later to go back into this. I think He put me in there so I could get what it's like to actually disciple kids, to get into the trenches day in and day out, so I can appreciate these promoters when we hook up with them. Another issue that we deal with, and we talk about this all the time, is faith. As much time as we're together, it probably takes up 30% of what we talk about. We met this guy in South Dakota that was out in the middle of nowhere with his boss, building a house. This guy, he was a Native American, watched his boss fall off of a ladder and kill himself, He died right there. He fell on the slab and boom ... blood coming out of his eyes and everything. He walked over and prayed for him and the guy got up. This was three months ago. Our deal is, if you look at some kids, they are so churched out man. I mean, there's nothing wrong with church. I go to an awesome church ... we all go to church and there's nothing wrong with church. I think you're a moron if you don't go to church. But at the same time, the kids are so churched out, so youth-grouped out. I think the only way to get kids, and I've prayed about it and fasted about it. I was like "man, God, how are we going to do this?". Like he said, there's so many extraordinary bands out there. So how are we going to make a difference? God told me that we have to show them that they're starving, spiritually starving. I was like, "well, they're getting fed. The youth pastors are feeding them." And He was like "no - you've got to show them that they're starving". I really couldn't figure out what he said, and then I met Albert, the guy from South Dakota. Plus, our own conversations, showed me that even though, and I say even though lightly, I don't mean to discredit this at all, even though the gift of salvation, being saved, is the greatest miracle of all.... If you look back in the Old Testament and in the New Testament and you see these miracles, these supernatural moves of God, that woke people up. That's how Israel stayed as strong as they did. I mean, yeah, they screwed up and they kept screwing up, but that's how they came back, by seeing these massive supernatural moves of God. I think this generation is no different than the Israelites. I think these kids have to see some Red Seas split somewhere. The kids have to come together through a Freak show, or a Delirious show, or even a Benny Hinn show. I mean, I don't know that much about Benny Hinn. I heard he gets cracked on a lot and a lot of people are behind him 100% - I don't know, I don't know the man. But I do know that people get healed at his concerts, or his revivals, whatever you want to call them. I think that in order for these kids to wake up and realize who this Jesus is, they need to see some miracles.
Kim: We have 5 kids at home. Two are teenagers.
Vince: (laughs) Bless you.
Kim: We see so many kids coming in and out and they're good kids. Going to church, involved in youth groups. But to them, it seems like that is what Jesus is all about, not a personal, one-on-one, day-to-day relationship. It's as is they've put God in this little box and He safely stays in that little box until they need Him, they want something, or it's time to go to church. My husband and I have been involved in different bands that ministered at different churches and in different denominations. Sometimes the kids would want to take friends and the response to different denominations and churches of different races was unbelievable. They were so used to one specific "way" to worship, that they didn't know what to think about people worshipping Jesus any differently. It was as if they were so used to "their churches way" that any other way was a wake up. It was like they were just coasting.
Vince: Sleepwalking. Yeah I know what you mean. You know, again, I'm not saying that miracles are the answer. The Bible says not to look for signs and miracles, for signs and wonders. But, do you not think.... I mean, imagine if you went to a rock show, a Christian rock show, and they rocked your face off. And when it came down to some ministry time the drummer just got up, obviously under the anointing influence of the Holy Spirit, and walked over to the handicap section and as he passed by all of those kids got up. You don't think that wouldn't make all those other thousands of kids just click? "Oh, that's the Jesus that I've been singing about for two years". That's our heart. That's what we want to be, that's where we want to be. Again, not to be a doomsday prophet, it's coming. There's a lot of people going to hell. So that's job security for us.
