Folk-rock foursome Silers Bald is looking forward to the debut of its first national release, Real Life, at the end of September. The upcoming record has tremendous backing by
Provident Music Distribution, Cliff Young, frontman of labelmate Caedmon's
Call, and 40,000 devoted fans.Real Life will be prominently featured as part of every major Provident Music Distribution retail promotion this fall. The "BLUR: Music That Brings Focus" campaign will highlight music from Real Life on an exclusive CD sampler, BLUR, along with songs by best-selling artists Michael W. Smith, Jars of Clay and Third Day, among others. BLUR, in approximately 1700 participating stores, will be free to consumers with the purchase of select PMD titles.
Similarly, the multi-phase Buzz campaign, created to heighten exposure of emerging, distributed artists to Christian retail, centers around a free-with-purchase new music CD, showcasing songs by today's most impressive rising talent. Real Life's title track will be included on the first-phase sampler.
Boasting an introductory price of $11.99, Real Life will also be the "Discover New Music" selection for PMD's "Now Playing" program in November, claiming key placement on endcaps in stores nationwide. The album will additionally be promoted via catalog advertising in fall pieces for all major chains and regional outlets. Silers Bald will be the featured artist on PMD's Web site in October.
Cliff Young, founding member and frontman for Caedmon's Call, followed Silers Bald's independent career for several years and was instrumental in facilitating the band's partnership with Essential Records. Young comments on the group's potential, "Silers Bald is a band that has been playing its music, touring more than 200 shows a year independently. An artist that has sold in excess of 40,000 units on its own can only move forward given the support of a record label and distribution company. There's no telling what great things are going to happen."
Dubbed "one of the Southeast's most popular independent bands," Silers Bald has established a significant fan following, one that has been organized into a national grassroots effort in motion at summer festivals, local markets and via Internet outlets.
Formed in the spring of 1996 by three friends at the University of South Carolina, Silers Bald is made up of guitarists/vocalists Shane Williams and Warren Bazemore, drummer Jason Jacobs and violinist Marcus Myers, who also plays the hammer dulcimer. Its four independent recordings have achieved impressive success, and Silers Bald has shared the stage with Caedmon's Call, Ginny Owens, Relient K, Grits, Skillet, Nickel Creek and Andrew Peterson. The band will additionally be heard this fall on City on a Hill - The Gathering.
