Doug Doppler Says...

  1. What is the most important thing that God taught you this year?

God never intended Himself to be put on a leash, used for our purposes at our beck and call. It is all about His timing, His purpose, His desire for us to become something that He can use for the Kingdom - I really had it all backwards. I figured that because I was a good Christian the Lord would grant my heart's desires as a reward for my good conduct - my arrogance on the whole thing humors me now. The beauty is that God is shaping us to become something He can use for His purpose and the call He has on our lives. The things He gives are not based on good performance, unlike the fat year-end bonus so many people spend their lives slaving for. He grants our heart's desire because it brings Him pleasure to see us happy, not to reward us for time well served. It is our responsibility to serve Him, simply look what He gave to pay for our inequities, our sin. The reality is that one of the most important things we can do is to truly seek God's purpose for us, not our purpose for Him. Being under cover with a proper spirit of submission to our Church leaders is key - we all set an example to less spiritually mature Christians - let's make sure to set the right one. He gives us far more than we actually need, and Salvation is God's real gift, paid for with a price beyond our wildest possible conceptualization. So long as we seek His voice, we will come to know Him and He will not turn us away at the gates - He has untold grace for those who have a heart to obey His word. That said, the most important thing that God taught me was that in faithful submission to Him, He will give me so much more than I want, He will give me what He wants for me...

  2. What is your number one New Years resolution for 2006?

Be bold in a way that the world does not confuse with pride. Boldness in Christ means that there is really no battle we can ever truly lose if we choose to remain under the covering of the Blood - we were bought and paid for long ago. As a musician, I still struggle internally with making sure that I don't cross the line from boldness into pride (comes before a ?) - something that takes a lot of fine tuning in a business that is so "me" oriented. But my greater struggle, purpose and goal is to make sure that people who are not Believers understand that boldness comes from my Faith in Jesus, and not in myself.

A Note From Doug

Kim's note ... this is a personal note that Doug sent me along with his answers to the two questions. With his permission I am reprinting it.

Thanks for including me - it is the greatest of honors to be able to glorify the Lord in a public way, not for mine of course, but for His Glory. I am truly humbled that He has chosen me that someone care to ask and opinion. The call on my life and the gifts He has given me were not of my choosing, but are my heart's desire, which is true for each of us. What you and I do is a very public example of this. One of the things that is on my heart greatly is to reach people who feel that just because their life is not a high profile one, that somehow they are less worthy. The world and the enemy would love for them to believe that, but we know that He knows that is all just a lie. The pleasure comes in being able to reach people and let them know that the Lord loves each of us for who He created us to be and that each of us plays just as important a role as the other... God Bless.
