Derek Webb - I See Things Upside Down

Derek Webb’s second solo studio project, I See Things Upside Down is causing a buzz. Positive feedback has been pouring in from all ends of the media spectrum. From reviews in CCM, Christian Musician, Christian Retailing, and a 5-star nod on ChristianityToday.com, early response is that this could be one of the year’s strongest releases. Here is what people are saying about I See Things Upside Down:

“Delivering his most compelling set to date, the Caedmon’s Call alumnus follows up recent live recording The House Show with his second studio release. Passionate vocals, cut-to-the-quick lyrics and rich yet stripped-down rhythms buttress one of this year’s most inventive solo records… In the end, the listener comes away feeling spiritually culpable yet sonically satisfied.”
-CCM Magazine

(I See Things Upside Down) revels in ambient textures and keyboard-based experimentation, achieving a kinship with such avant-garde populists as Brian Eno, Radiohead and Wilco, with melodic inspiration from Elliot Smith and the Beatles… I See Things Upside Down is an ambitious record that challenges us to re-examine the things we hold dear and consider the value of conforming to the will of our Savior.”
-Christian Musician

“In the midst of a creative drought in today's Christian music, I'm thankful we have Derek Webb… I See Things Upside Down gives a similarly passionate and provocative perspective (as She Must and Shall Go Free), contrasting true Christian values with those of the world. It's about wrestling with idols, not just typical materialism found in fame and fortune, but also more subtle trappings like false humility, security, and piety.”
-Russ Breimeier, ChristianityToday.com

“Webb not only shows a penchant for convicting commentary but also displays a rich musical talent that makes the disc one of the more original releases of the year.”
-Christian Retailing

“You may have a masterpiece on your hands. Truly great. Beautiful."
-Don Chaffer from Waterdeep

Derek is currently on the road touring the country performing mainly in colleges and churches to help promote I See Things Upside Down. Shifting gears from playing intimate settings such as small churches and even living rooms supporting She Must and Shall Go Free and resulting in the brilliant, live record The House Show, Derek is looking forward to hitting the road again backed by a full band.

Be sure to log onto CCM Magazine’s website, www.ccmcom.com on December 16 for a live chat with Derek where he will answer all of your questions.
