David Hill, president, DIRECTV Entertainment, said in a press release earlier this week, “Songs of Praise will be one of the biggest Easter celebrations on television with performances from the country’s most inspirational choirs and contemporary Christian artists. This is DIRECTV’s first foray into original religious programming and we look forward to providing even more content like this to our more than 15 million customers across the country.”
Co-host Nicole C. Mullen added, “As a recording artist and a subscriber to DIRECTV, I am doubly honored and excited to be a part of such a wonderful program. Songs of Praise is an excellent way for people to find and be reminded of the hope, joy and love that this Easter celebration brings.”
NASCAR racing legend Darrell Waltrip talked about the special in an interview today. “This Songs of Praise special that we did for DIRECTV, as you know, is going to come on Friday night at 6 o’clock eastern. There are some incredible groups and choirs performing. Every choir that you’ve ever heard of is going to have a song in the special. I’m excited about it! It’s going to be fun!” He got involved in the special due to his friendship with David Hill. "David was telling me about this special. He knows about my involvement in the ministry.” (The ministry being Motor Sports Christian Outreach, which Waltrip chairs. MRO holds chapel services each week at NASCAR races.) Darrell continued, “He thought it would be a perfect tie-in for me to be a part of it. I was so glad that I did. When he was telling me about it, I didn’t know more than it was just an Easter special. But after I agreed to get involved in it and we did it, I was so glad to be a part of it. I was so blessed. I love choirs. The songs that these choirs do are just so incredible.”
The special premiers at 6 a.m.ET/3 a.m. PT on DIRECTV channel 103 beginning on Friday, April 14, continuing with back to back airings throughout Easter Weekend. It is available exclusively to DIRECTV customers at no additional cost.
