'The Burning Heart Contract' - Challenging You To Commit

Have you ever met one of those people that you start out not liking one bit because they're just too perfect? You know the type - they're doing all of the right things, the things that you know you should be doing, and they're doing them with an ease that absolutely defies the struggle you're having. That was where I stood when I first started reading Becky Tirabassi's Burning Heart Contract. This lady was challenging me to devote one hour a day to God. An hour a day - with my schedule! Oh please! Not only that, she was specific about it ... Spend time in prayer, (even when I didn't feel like God was listening or answering) and spent time in the Word (even on those days that what I was reading didn't seem to "fit" with my life at the moment). Oh sure, she told her own story - how God delivered her from substance abuse and a really wild life-style. She told of making a written commitment to God to give Him an hour a day and how it had changed her life for the better. And I struggled with it. I struggled with my schedule. I struggled with the commitment she wanted me to make. I started to really not like Becky Tirabassi.

The 21-Day Challenge

But then, somewhere between the introduction and Day Seven - "Hour of Power," things changed. I considered the fact that God gives me 24 hours every single day, so giving Him an hour back didn't seem like such a hardship anymore. I started keeping a journal like Becky suggested - with my part and God's part. I was amazed at the results. I'd have a prayer or a struggle or a question written in my part and sure enough, before I knew it, there would be an answer in God's part that came from a Scripture that I read or a sermon that I heard. I started to like Becky Tirabassi!

By the time I reached the end of her 21-Day Challenge, I felt like maybe I should call and thank her for making me reach and stretch towards God. If you take the time to read The Burning Heart Contract you'll probably feel the same way. It's not an easy book that just leaves you with an "oh - that was a nice diversion" feeling. It will challenge you and stretch you and ultimately change you. But that's a good thing.
