Avalon - 'Another Time, Another Place' - Paying Tribute to the Past
The classic Avalon harmonies are prominent throughout the release and each song takes a moment or two to let individual voices blaze through like that one errant sunbeam that peaks out from the clouds at just the right moment.
Another Time, Another Place opens up strong with Twila Paris' "God is in Control." Avalon's first major tour was with Twila, so this song is not only a reminder that no matter what the circumstances, God is in control of the world, it's also something of a tribute to Twila.
"Another Time, Another Place," by Sandi Patty and Wayne Watson is not only my personal favorite on the release, it is also one of the first Christian music videos that Janna Long ever watched. Avalon certainly does the tune justice.
"People Get Ready," another personal fave, was first done by Crystal Lewis (who the band toured with in 1998). Avalon's version has to make Crystal proud. Segue right into "Basics of Life," with it's almost R&B flavor and you know that the members of 4Him are smiling.
Songs that Inspired Avalon Through Their Journey
The Amy Grant classic, "El Shaddai" doesn't get a complete face-lift on Another Time, Another Place; it just gets a little nip and tuck and viola! ... it's a fan favorite all over again.
No review of this album would be complete without mention of "Place In This World," "Addictive Love" and the Avalon theme song, "Testify to Love." All three classics are very well-represented.
Bottom line: Avalon members were inspired by each and every one of these songs to do what they do and their versions will inspire you. Another hats-off moment for Avalon.
