'Proof Positive' by Cross Culture - A Mix of Styles that Works

If you're a hard core rocker, someone who exclusively enjoys funk, a fan who thinks "give me rap or give me nothing at all," or a person who likes a nice, neat label on the music you listen to, then Cross Culture won't be for you. However, if you like to expand your horizons, listening to music that blends so many stylistic aspects that you can't possibly call it "_________" then you'll love Cross Culture's national debut release, Proof Positive. Justin David, Chris Wright and Dan Harris, collectively known as Cross Culture, bring a mixture of funk, rock, jazz, hard, melodic rock, gospel, alternative and rap to the table with a sprinkling of salsa and a large dose of lyrics that make you think.
It shouldn't be a bit surprising that their music comprises so many styles, since they are literally from three different and distinct backgrounds. Cross Culture really means cross culture. A Caucasian, a Hispanic American and an African American creating music together crosses many bridges in a cultural sense. I'm not sure who brought what, but there are some in your face musical moments followed by some almost delicate interludes - dramatic mood shifts done intelligently ... what a treat. You rarely find those two aspects blended together at all, and even more rare is finding it done well. No, they didn't reinvent the wheel, but they put some killer rims on it!

"Extraordinary" gently reminds us that Jesus sees us how we "want to be seen" ... as extraordinary. "One Of These Days" is a journey that speaks of our aspirations to grow and to become better people ... one of these days. Not a novel concept, but absolutely something that everyone can relate to. My third favorite track, "Can't Live," is so full of musical twists, turns and surprises that you won't be able to help yourself - you'll fall in love!

With a debut this strong, I'm wondering how in the world they will be able to top it when they do their sophmore release, but, with this much talent and passion for the Lord, I have no doubt that they will.
