'Who You Are' - Desperation Band Stands out From the Crowd
I'll admit I'm not a big worship music fan so I wasn't quite sure what to expect when listening to this album, but I was pleasantly surprised. For a while there everybody was playing worship music, and it seemed like everybody sold whether it was good or not. People just played it because it was the trend. Desperation Band stands out from many of those bands. This is a modern collection of worship songs which even incorporates such modern elements as turn tables. Try that for originality! There is also a nice collection of slow and fast paced songs. These songs contain very thought provoking worshipful lyrics throughout the album.Desperation Band, in case you're not familiar with them, is made up of Jared Anderson, Jon Egan, and Glenn Packiam. These guys are associate worship pastors at New Life Church in Colorado Springs under the leadership of senior pastor Ted Haggard and worship pastor Ross Parsley.
About the Songs
"Freedom Song" is a very up-tempo song with a very driving rhythm to it. It reminds people that freedom has been paid for by Jesus. "The Difference" is another great fast paced song. This song talks about Jesus being the difference in life.Another one of my personal favorites is "Chasing." This is a well put together mid-tempo song with a nice bass line. The lyrics talk about pursuing after God and how he satisfies.
My only complaint is that several songs into the album the music slows down, and it gets a bit boring in certain areas. However, I would say that this is a very solid album overall. Desperation Band delivers a much needed more modern worship album with originality. This is not just another worship band that is merely a clone of so many others. They are definitely worth a listen!
