The Review - Todd Agnew - 'Reflection of Something'
When Todd Agnew's debut release, Grace Like Rain hit sales of over 100,000 units (it's now at 150,000), he knew that his sophmore album would have to be something really special. It's not that he was overly worried about sales or popularity ... that's just not Todd. He simply didn't want to release a "Grace II" and he didn't want to do a bad job for God. That is Todd! So he set out to do something different and he did a bang up job. Reflection of Something mixes thumping bass, great guitar rock and blues with a strong message that basically says, "What does your life reflect?"
Reflection starts off strong with the bluesy "Something Beautiful".
- It's funny how all I can be
Is someone completely ugly
And yet when You look at me
You don't see a wretch, You see a reflection
Of something beautiful
- You know when I wake, when I rise, when I pray, when I curse You
And you love me the same
You know when I stumble and fall, and You're there through it all
The only unchanging one
The crowning achievement of this release is the next to the last track, "My Jesus". This song talks about a Jesus that you rarely hear about in church settings - a Jesus that got down in the dirt when necessary, to reach the lost.
- Pretty blue eyes and curly brown hair and a clear complexion
Is how you see Him as He dies for Your sins
But the Word says He was battered and scarred
Or did you miss that part
Sometimes I doubt we'd recognize Him
This release is one of those that will stick with you long after the strains of the last track have faded away so be prepared. You'll find yourself looking at your own walk and your own reflection - and you may or may not like what you see.
