'Imprint' - Some Great Beatlesque Moments
But he’s on his own with this debut CD, and I wish I liked it more. He wears his heart on his sleeve, a quality I really enjoy, and it is clear that Cook is an intelligent, genuine man who sincerely wants to honor God with his musical gifts. I think many will find much to enjoy on Imprint, but I’m not a big pop fan, and this debut is heavy on the pop.
I don't want my preferences to unduly discourage any potential listeners so I'm going to focus on the album's strengths, of which there are several worth noting. "Wipe Away the Tears" is an outstanding and moving declaration of the world's deep need for the comfort and mercies of God. "Broke My Bones" and a few other songs contain some great Beatlesque moments, and I found “Will You Love Me Then?” to be very refreshing and frank, another quality I love. Michael Cook has the intelligence and the passion to create good music, and while this is not the most exciting debut of the year, I think we’ll be hearing more from him, and I myself look forward to it.
