The Bottom Line

Inhabited is headed up by brother/sister duo Marcus and Sara Acker, making music out of their passion for young people. I can't think of a better reason, and their hearts for ministry come across strong in every tune on The Revolution.

Guide Review - Inhabited - 'The Revolution'

Inhabited (great name, huh?!) sounds like many other girl-fronted bands (think Superchi[k], BarlowGirl). Sara's vocals aren't bad at all, they're just not extraordinary. And the material doesn't offer much originality, so the overall effect is sameness. Which is unfortunate because like I say, these siblings truly care, and that is extraordinary.

The band's hearts for ministry is this CD's strongest virtue. "Where You Are (Angel)" and "One More Night" are two standout tracks and both overflow with this sense of mission.

Some of their tunes offer a great energy, power guitars building nicely, but ultimately it fails to excite. If I could make a suggestion (because they definitely have talent and passion to spare), Inhabited will be more interesting when they push the envelope a bit more, step out of the safety zone. "One More Night" tells the story of a girl who emailed Sara, needing encouragement. But the song never really addresses her situation; there is a nebulous sense of some sort of trouble ("one more night on that dirty floor?"), but you never really get the first clue about the type of trouble or the help she needs, which makes it difficult to invest emotionally. There's a generic sense to this project, and I think some specificity might engage the listener further. It's real life, people, and we're all in it! Let's use our power to be true; now that's a revolution!
