Red Umbrella - 'Wishing For Boardwalk' - Music With a Message
Canada's own Red Umbrella has hit the U.S. with their debut release, Wishing For Boardwalk. Listening to their music, it's pretty apparent that the band members grew up with a lot of U2 and the Beatles on their stereos. Not that Red Umbrella is a knock-off band ... because they do put their own unique spin on things ... it was just a bit unexpected. Lead singer Jeremy Michaelis adds a kind-of "new age" vocal sound to seriously retro sounding music. Don't get me wrong, his voice isn't bad, and neither is the music - it's just one of those experiences that you struggle to adequately describe!
What isn't a struggle at all is the message. They may not be using Jesus' name in every song, but it doesn't take a Ph.D. to figure out what they're talking about.

Stand out tracks include:
- "Straight Jacket" - this tune shows that the band does indeed know how to rock.
- "Run" - life changes drastically when you've come to Christ - and this song is all about that change.
- "Wishing for Boardwalk" - very upbeat and popish, this song has deeper meaning than the title suggests.

This isn't the everyday stuff here ... the music is different enough that it is pretty hard to categorize and it really grows on you the more you listen to it.
