'Tha Dog is Out' by Spanish Kid - The Review
Yo, tha dog is out, y’all betta beware! Spanish Kid is coming on strong, with a passionate call to both youth on the street and the church in the pews. Y’all betta wake up. Kid’s vocals are husky and raw, easy on the ears and straightforwardly understandable. The beats are off the hook and a number of tracks are just plain pretty; check out the melodic intro to the warrior theme, “Aint Quitin.”
Like a lot of hip-hop artists, Spanish Kid comes from a hard-won place of repentance and recommitment, gladly leaving behind a painful past. These memories fuel his mission to save youth from the same mistakes. From his promo package: “Spanish Kids has many goals in life, but his main mission is to reach as many lost soulz as possible.”
This sophomore effort should help him do just that. Guest appearances by Illustrate, MVP, Rollah, Stephanie, Shyne, and Shen will only aid the mission. Don’t miss Illustrate and Spanish Kid’s passionate collaboration on “2 Emcee Stylez,” an in-your-face condemnation on the hypocrisy of the church. Give yourself time to hear the plea for peace underneath the anger. It’s a timely and important message. Ya gotta respect Spanish Kid for his willingness to bring a hard word. The Dog holds nothing back in this strong CD.
