Jake Smith - Real

Jake Smith - Real

Rocketown Records
Christians are real people with real emotions and real problems. We don't live in a nice, fuzzy world where everything smells like roses and our biggest concern is what to cook for dinner. Jake Smith gets that. In fact, he not only gets it, he writes about it and sings about in a "popish-jazzy-blues" sort of way.

Real delivers enough high-quality music that you may find yourself wondering how in the world he pulled it off on a debut release.

'Real' - Pros & Cons

  • Fans of artists like John Mayer will love this guy.
  • Jake Smith brings in so many different musical styles and elements that every song is like opening a new gift on Christmas morning ... you don't know what to expect and your excitement level just keeps increasing.

  • If you believe that Christians can't have stuff like relationship issues or life crisises, then Jake Smith will probably be much too "Real" for you.

'Real' - No Fluff Here

The first thing I noticed about Jake Smith was his eyes. The album cover just seemed to jump out at me and something about his eyes spoke volumes. They seemed to say things like, "I've lived. I've felt pain and I've learned and grown from it." After doing some reading about Jake, I found that he not only survived Hurricane Katrina, but he also fought the battle of watching both of his parents fight cancer.

Oh yeah ... he's felt his heart get pulled out piece by piece.

Listening to his debut release gave more details of who Jake Smith is and how he thinks. He's no "Jesus cheerleader." Instead, he is someone who isn't afraid to let listeners know that life isn't always going to be great. In fact, sometimes it's going to be really depressing and dark. But in the darkest moments, if you look hard enough, you will find a spark of light that will keep you going.

Songs like "Breakdown" will speak to you ... I promise. You'll relate to at least one song on Real and you'll find yourself enriched by the experience.
