I usually avoid reviewing compilation CDs because with them, you're not so much reviewing the music itself as the choices that the producers made. Honestly, does Michael W. Smith's "Shout Unto God" sound any better on WOW than it does on his A New Hallelujah when it is the exact same song and the exact same mix? The thing is, the choices that the Word folks made on WOW Worship Purple are so great that I simply had to review it. The song selection flows smoothly to help listeners go beyond the veil to a place of pure worship. Brand new tunes from Matthew West and Francesca Battistelli help make this one stand out.
'WOW Worship Purple' - Perfect for church, youth and personal worship
Technically, any song for God or about God would qualify as "worship." Generally speaking though, many are referring to a mood when they mention "worship music" and/or music that works well for "corporate worship" in church. WOW Worship Purple nails that one on the head. This double-CD set could easily work for any Sunday morning service or youth group.
From the gentleness of Kari Jobe's "Revelation Song" with it's almost haunting intro to the passionate punch of Aaron Shust's "My Savior My God," the joyous highs and the humbling quiet moments are covered. Add in treats like Matthew West's rendition of "The Wonderful Cross," Leeland's "Majesty (Here I Am)" and Natalie Grant's "Desert Song" and you've got two hours and 21 minutes of worth every penny whether you're listening in church or on your own.
