"Normally you'd have it for life," he says. "But I was in the hospital in March and one of the top surgeons went through all my intestines and said there was no disease to treat."
It just so happened that the doctor who treated Rick around the time of his healing was named Dr. Church! And yes, he was a Christian.
After all he went through with the disease and subsequent healing, Rick co-wrote "Never Forget You", a song that reminds listeners to never take for granted all God's done for them.
Sonicflood was, at one time, "the" modern worship band with their hit song, "The Heart of Worship". However, line-up changes, including the departure of frontman Jeff Deyo, wreaked some havoc on who and what Sonicflood was.
These days, after some re-grouping, Rick leads some new musicians, including Bryan Willard on bass, Trey Hill and Jordan Jameson on guitars and Ben Showalter on drums. Among them, these new musicians have experience playing for the likes of Matt Redman, Everlife and LaRue, to name a few. The result is a clearly invigorated Sonicflood, ready to put the past behind them, and start over with this new disc, entitled, This Generation.
The group now has a sharp focus: using their modern rock worship music to reach anyone listening with the message that Satan is lying when he puts in our minds that God doesn't care about us. Rick hopes that Sonicflood's new music will encourage listeners to truly trust God's promise that He has a plan to prosper us and not harm us.
Basically, Sonicflood's sound is pretty similar to Newsboys and plenty of other contemporary Christian pop-rockers. However, there's something special about this disc, in particular, because you can definitely sense sincerity in the singing. It seems like Sonicflood is more focused than before.
