Chad Smith, Laura Allen and Sam Allen of No Other Name share some of their Christmas favorites ...
- Favorite Christmas carol
Chad, Laura and Sam agree - "Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem"
- Favorite Christmas TV special and/or movie
Chad - Do I have to pick only one?? A Christmas Story
Laura - How the Grinch Stole Christmas (cartoon version)
Sam - I have two. And here they are as follows and I quote (see what I did there? ): The cartoon version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (the edited for TV version, of course).
- Favorite Christmas goodie
Chad - Love me some Purity brand eggnog!
Laura - Fudge
Sam - Electronics, electronics, electronics. Don't try to guess my pant size, just go to Best Buy!
- Favorite Christmas tradition
Chad - Pulling out all the Harry Connick Jr., Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, ect. Christmas music I can find and listening to it with the kids.
Laura - Eating fudge!
Sam - There are so many great Christmas traditions, but if I have to choose just one, I would say the Christmas eve service at church is my favorite. Good worship and good music is always a good time. But a close second is fantasy fudge. Mmmm.
- Christmas memory that stands out the most
Chad - I think about Christmas at my Grandparents house. They didn't have a lot of money and they didn't live in a fancy house but the love, warmth and togetherness I knew there as a kid was worth more than anyone could ever pay. I would not change a second of it.
Laura - One Christmas when I was about 9, it was unusually cold for central Florida -- below freezing temperatures for a couple days. The extra electricity used by everyone running their heaters (in addition to Christmas lights, cooking, etc.) caused a strain on the power grid, and we had "rolling blackouts" for a day or so. Much of our extended family lived nearby, and Christmas morning, all of our houses were without power. We were the only house with a wood-burning fireplace, so everyone came over to keep warm. My mom ended up cooking eggs and bacon on the fire. It was like "Little House on the Prairie"! I loved it! Funny how what should have been a major inconvenience turned into a fond memory for all of us.
Sam - Sometimes, when we were kids, our family would drive to see my grandmother in south Georgia. One Christmas, we didn't have a car big enough to carry us, our luggage and our presents, so we put a topper on the back of dad's truck and drove that. Laura and I got to ride in the bed of the truck (and I mean that literally because mom put a mattress in the back because truck beds aren't all that comfortable). Well, even though it was Florida, Laura and I got cold in the back of truck on that five-hour drive to grandma's. So what did mom do? She remembered to bring some 4" dryer flex duct. Oh yes. She taped the duct around one of the AC vents in the cab and ran it to the back bed of the truck. It worked perfectly. We looked a little bit like the Clampetts but we made it safe, sound and warm.
