Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet," have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?.
Let's face it ... it's easy to treat people that "look the part" better than it is to treat those that look out of place the same way. Jesus himself told us to love our neighbors as ourselves and that includes those who live in the good neighborhoods, those who live in the wrong side of town and even those who have nowhere to call home. Christmas is supposed to be a joyous time that is spent celebrating Christ. But for someone who has nothing, often it's difficult to feel like celebrating anything. This holiday season, spread the love for your neighbor that Jesus gave each and every one of us. Step out of your comfort zone and reach out a hand to someone who needs much, much more than just a bland and blank look.
