This year's GMA Awards have several excellent songs up for the various Song of the Year categories. The winners were announced live on April 23, 2008.

Rap/Hip Hop Recorded Song of the Year

  • "Name Droppin’" - Bone-Appetit Servin’ Up Tha Hits - T-Bone - WINNER
  • "Open Bar" - Redemption - Grits
      Compare Prices

"Open Bar" is a truly unusual name for a Christian song and lyrically it wouldn't be a stretch to take this one the wrong way, but the great beat and guest appearance by Pigeon John make it a good sounding tune.

  • "Wake Up" - The Yearbook - KJ-52 featuring Toby Morrell
  • "Who Am I?" - Open Book - Da’ T.R.U.T.H. featuring Tye Tribbett
      Compare Prices

Way off of the beaten path, "Who Am I?" is a definite twist for Da’ T.R.U.T.H.

  • "Word of Mouth" - Word of Mouth - John Reuben
      Compare Prices

John Reuben never fails to entertain with his sense of humor and fun while he is hitting straight talking points 110% of the time. "Word of Mouth" takes his talent even farther.

Rock Recorded Song of the Year

  • "Comatose" - Comatose - Skillet - WINNER
      Compare Prices
      Purchase/Download

Reminding us that an "overdose" of God is the only way to wake up from our spiritual comas, "Comatose" is a defite keeper.

  • "Break Me Down" - End of Silence - Red
      Compare Prices
      Purchase/Download

Maybe it was Red's intensity or maybe it was the quiet touch of an orchestra in the background ... whatever it was, "Break Me Down" hits the mark on all fronts.

  • "I Need You" - Five Score And Seven Years Ago - Relient K
      Compare Prices

Hard rock meets punk on this tune. Personally, I would have rather seen "Deathbed" in the running.

  • "Million Voices" - How Can We Be Silent - BarlowGirl
  • "Procrastinating" - We Can't Stand Sitting Down - Stellar Kart
      Compare Prices
      Purchase/Download

If you want high speed pop punk, "Procrastinating" is right up your alley. However, in my opinion, "Activate" was faster and harder.

Rock/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year

  • "Everything Glorious" - Remedy - David Crowder Band - WINNER
      Compare Prices
      Purchase/Download

A little different sounding than typical David Crowder Band, "Everything Glorious" is, none-the-less, still great and purely David Crowder Band!

  • "After The World" - Scars Remain - Disciple
      Compare Prices
      Purchase/Download

Disciple just keeps getting better and "After The World" is one of those songs that anyone can relate to, no matter where they are in their walk.

  • "Awakening" - Oh! Gravity - Switchfoot
  • "Glorious One" - We Shine - Fee
      Compare Prices
      Purchase/Download

Steve Fee has been a part of the Passion worship movement since the very beginning, helping make "Glorious One" an instant winner for fans of Passion.

  • "Signature of Divine (Yahweh)" - The Heat - NEEDTOBREATHE

Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year

  • "East To West" - The Altar And The Door - Casting Crowns - WINNER
      Compare Prices
      Purchase/Download

Casting Crowns hasn't become one of the top bands in all of Christian music for being slackers and "East to West" hits the bulls-eye on every point.

  • "I'm Not Who I Was" - Don't Get Comfortable - Brandon Heath
      Compare Prices

Off of his debut album, "I'm Not Who I Was" is a big clue as to why Brandon Heath won the New Artist of the Year award this year.

  • "In Better Hands" - Relentless - Natalie Grant
  • "Tears Of The Saints" - Sound Of Melodies - Leeland
  • "Undo" - Rush Of Fools - Rush Of Fools

Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year

  • "By His Wounds" - Glory Revealed - Steven Curtis Chapman, Mark Hall, Brian Littrell, Mac Powell - WINNER
      Compare Prices
      Purchase/Download

Not to state the obvious, but Steven Curtis Chapman, Mark Hall, Brian Littrell and Mac Powell on one song ... there is no way this one couldn't win.

  • "Be Lifted High" - Stand - Michael W. Smith
  • "Be Thou Near To Me" - Bless The Broken Road - Selah
      Compare Prices
      Purchase/Download

Featuring new vocalist Amy Perry sharing the vocals with Todd Smith, "Be Thou Near To Me" is worship in the sweetest sense on the word.

  • "Give Me Jesus" - Beyond Measure - Jeremy Camp
  • "God Speaking" - God Speaking - Ronnie Freeman
