The GMA Dove Awards have honored the best female vocalist every year since 1969. In the first 30 years of the award, only 12 different female vocalists have taken home the honor.
1999 - Jaci Velasquez
Jaci was the best female artist in the land and her single, "Llegar A Ti" hit the number 1 spot on the Hot Latin Tracks list in 1999.
1998 - Crystal Lewis
Crystal Lewis took the stage twice at the '98 Doves; once to get her statue for Female Vocalist of the Year and once to get her statue for Spanish Language Album of the Year for her release, La Belleza de la Cruz.
1997 - Cece Winans
For the second year in a row, Cece Winans took home the Female Vocalist of the Year award. That award was 1 of 3 that she won that night.
1996 - Cece Winans
In 1996 Cece Winans also won a Dove for Traditional Gospel Recorded Song of the Year with "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" from Alone In His Presence.

1993 - Twila Paris
The first artist to break Sandi Patty's streak, Twila Paris went on to win this award another 2 years running.
1992 - 1982 - Sandi Patty
No, it's not a typo. Sandi Patty won the Female Vocalist of the Year award every single year for an unprecedented 11 years in a row. Sandi was such a huge name in Christian music that during that 11 year time span, she won a total of 30 Dove Awards.
Eight years after her 11-year run, Sandi was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame with 39 Dove Awards, five Grammy Awards, three RIAA-certified platinum and five gold recordings.
1981 - 1980 - Cynthia Clawson
Cynthia was Female Vocalist of the Year 2 years in a row and she also won the award for Inspirational Album of the Year in 1981 for her album, You're Welcome Here.
1978 - 1977 - Evie Tornquist
Evie Tornquist won the award 2 years in a row and then left the Christian music scene 3 years later to pursue full time ministry. She was quoted in CCM Magazine as saying, "I felt as though my hands were tied in terms of ministry. I wanted more freedom to pursue ministry; but when people pay to hear you sing, you have a responsibility to do what they paid you to do."
In 2005 Evie was inducted into the GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
