The Gospel Music Association's Dove Awards have honored the best male vocalist every year since 1969. In the first 30 years of the award, only 11 different male vocalists have taken home the honor.
21. 1989 - Wayne Watson
Wayne Watson took home 2 Doves in 1989. He was the Male Vocalist of the Year, as well as one of the songwriters behind the Song of the Year, "Friend of a Wounded Heart."
22. 1988 - Larnelle Harris
Larnelle Harris took home three Doves in 1988. He was a three-time winner of the Male Vocalist of the Year award, as well as the Songwriter of the Year and the voice behind the Inspirational Album of the Year.

23. 1987 - Steve Green
With a repeat performance from 1985, Steve once again took home the Male Vocalist of the Year award. Throughout his years in music ministry, Steve has been honored with four Grammy nominations, 13 No. 1 songs and seven Dove Awards. With 23 recordings under his belt, including children’s projects and Spanish-language albums, Steve Green has sold over three million albums worldwide.
24. 1986 - Larnelle Harris
In 1986, Larnelle Harris also won the award for Inspirational Album of the Year for his release, I've Just Seen Jesus.
25. 1985 - Steve Green
This was Steve's only Dove award in 1985.
26. 1984 - Russ Taff
1984 was Russ Taff's third win in the Male Vocalist of the Year category.
27. 1983 - Larnelle Harris
Larnelle also won the Inspirational Black Gospel Album award for his release, Touch Me Lord, in 1983.
28. 1982 - Russ Taff
For the second year in a row, Russ took home the Male Vocalist of the Year award.
29. 1981 - Russ Taff
Russ went on to win this particular award two more times in the '80s.
30. 1980 - Dallas Holm
Dallas Holm and his band Praise also won the Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year award in 1980 for All That Matters.
