The GMA Dove Awards first honored the Group of the Year in 1981. This history will highlight the winning group for each year.
2009 - 2005 - Casting Crowns
For five years in a row, Casting Crowns has taken home the Group of the Year award.
2004 - MercyMe
2004 was a good year for MercyMe. They also took home awards for the Song of the Year, Artist of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year.
2003 - 2001 - Third Day
Third Day came in three years in a row as Group of the Year. From 2001 to 2003, Third Day took home an impressive 12 Dove Awards in all.
2000 - Sixpence None The Richer
2000 was the same year that Sixpence None The Richer was certified Platinum by RIAA.
1999 - Point of Grace
The ladies of Point of Grace also took home the award for Enhanced CD of the Year in 1999.
1998 - 1997 - Jars of Clay
For two years running, Jars of Clay was the Dove Awards Group of the Year. In 1997 they were GRAMMY winners for the Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.
1996 - Point of Grace
In '96 the Point of Grace gals also won awards for Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year, Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year and Special Event Album of the Year.
1995 - 1993 - 4HIM
During their 3 years of being Group of the Year, 4HIM also won 2 Dove's for Inspirational Album of the Year.
1992 - BeBe & CeCe Winans
10 years after the siblings debut as part of the singers on the Christian television show Praise The Lord, they took home the Dove award for Group of the Year.
