Being Heard Loud and Clear
- Do - Take the time to actually write a letter with your own thoughts and feelings.
- Don't - Use a form letter. (It looks like you really don't care that much when you use one.)
- Do - Remain calm and let your letter be a voice of reason.
- Don't - Write an emotional attack. (You'll be written off as a "nutcase.")
- Do - Give them a reason to make a change.
- Don't - Tell them something like, "I've never watched that garbage you call TV and now I never will!" (That statement gives the network no reason to work with you. You don't already watch them and you never will ... so why should they do something to make you happy?)
- Do - Remember - South Park isn't the only show on Comedy Central. Tell the network which CC shows you do watch and explain why you're seriously questioning if continuing to support their network is a good idea.
- Don't - Trash the entire network. (See the previous don't.)
- Do - Go higher up the chain. Comedy Central is owned by Viacom, one of the world's largest media companies with over $20 billion in annual sales.
- Don't - Forget that they also own CBS Broadcasting, United Paramount Network (UPN), BET, CMT, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick @ Nite, Noggin, TV Land, Spike, Vh1, Showtime Networks (Showtime, The Movie Channel, FLIX, Sundance) and more than 100 networks around the world as well as Paramount Pictures, Paramount Home Entertainment, CBS Radio and Simon & Schuster Publishing. If you don't watch anything on Comedy Central, mention one of their other companies. Remember - Viacom is the boss and Comedy Central only gets away with what they allow.
- Do - Remember the advertisers. CC your letter to a few companies that advertise on Comedy Central.
- Don't - Tell one of those companies that you'll never buy their product again. (Give them a chance to do something before the word boycott even enters your mind.)
- There are several ways that companies can advertise on Comedy Central. There are 10 advertising opportunities on home page alone. There are also ads in each of Comedy Central's four newsletters. Of course, TV ads are rampant. While writing this article, I have had the station on in the background. I've seen ads for the following companies ...

- Do - Remember that Jesus died for the folks that you're upset with, just like he died for you.
- Don't - Assure who you're writing to that they're going to hell because of this show. (Remember what Jesus said about Loving your neighbor as you love yourself?) Even if you're angry or upset, using our Savior as a weapon to beat someone with isn't helping the situation, them or even yourself.
- John 3:17
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Believe it or not, a clear, concise and professional (rather than emotional) letter writing campaign can make a difference. The Asian Media Watch mounted such a campaign against Comedy Central over the show Banzai. CC stopped airing the show after several advertisers pulled their commercials.
The bottom line with television networks is the dollar. Their job isn't to set the social conscious - it's to make a buck. So hit them where it hurts ... in the pocket book. We Christians have money that is just as green as everybody elses. We buy services and products too. That gives us buying power, which in Hollywood, is no small change!
