Kim – Hi guys. I’ve heard a lot this week how it’s getting more acceptable by the industry to be real instead of trying to white-wash who you are and what you’re about to be more acceptable. Then you get put up on a pedestal because you’re so perfect with these little tiny problems, instead of big whoppers like the rest of the world. Do you guys feel like it’s OK to be real people?

Chuck – I think that’s a good topic because one time Phil, from the newsboys, told me how important it is to point people towards God. People that come to Christian concerts look up to us. Sometimes they can mistakenly look at us like we’re their gods and think “That’s what I want to serve and that’s the relationship that I want to have.” Phil was expressing the importance of “Hey, we’ve got to point people towards God and not towards ourselves.” You’re right – we’re all sinners in that boat and all of us need a Savior because we fall short of the glory of God. We’ve got to be able to lock arms and encourage believers and non-believers to say, “Hey, there’s a huge, great God that created us” and look to Him for answers. As we encourage each other and press each other, as iron sharpens iron, we grow together in the body of Christ. But we’ve still got to point them towards God not ourselves.

Kim – I work with a lot of youth and they come to me with real problems and they need real answers from a real person. It doesn’t glorify God if I act like I’ve never messed anything up. What about you guys … do you have families?

Aaron – I’m married but no kids yet. I just got married in October. I’m the one that took the plunge first.

Chuck – Ben and I are single. We don’t have girlfriends.

Ben – They want me to tell you that I have a girlfriend. It’s really important to them.

Aaron – I didn’t say anything!

Kim – Do you have a girlfriend Ben?

Ben – I have a girlfriend. She’s an amazing girlfriend. And if I don’t tell you then it will hurt their feelings.

Aaron – I don’t care if you talk about your girlfriend.

Ben – OK – funny. In an interview yesterday, they asked if we were single or married and I didn’t speak up and then they…

Chuck – No, the person said “Are you single?” and I went (nodded his head) and so did Ben. To me when you have a really serious girlfriend, not just a girlfriend, but a really serious girlfriend, you’re not single. You’re not married, but you’re not single. Single to me means that you’re available.

Kim – Yeah. There’s single, there’s taken or involved…

Chuck – Yeah! Taken! Taken sounds better. And then there’s pretty taken.

Ben – OK! I’m pretty taken. (laughs)

Aaron – He’s just got that bachelor in him. He wants to keep that.

Kim – Ben, you’re going to have to make sure that your “pretty taken” other half does not read this interview!

Ben – Nah … she’s cool.

Aaron – She’d probably be like “Yeah, I have a boyfriend. He’s cool”.

Chuck – You’ve got a cool tattoo. You need one of our shirts. We have a shirt that says, “Jesus loves me and my tattoos”.

Kim – Yep! Despite what some people think – Jesus still loves me, even with my tattoos. I’m saved by grace, not bound by Old Testament laws. The rest of the verse in Leviticus talks about not wearing clothes made of two kinds of cloth, but most people don’t blink at wearing a cotton-poly blend. It speaks of men not shaving their faces, yet there are a lot of clean shaven men around. You can’t pick and choose which parts of a Scripture you're going to follow. You’re either a legalist or you’re not. God may not be allowed in our public schools, but He was sure with me in that tattoo parlor!

Aaron – I love that!

Chuck – We all have tattoos.

Ben – Yeah, we’ve got five apiece.

Aaron – Our funny thing is that people will come up to us and see our tattoos and say something like “Oh well, everybody’s got a past”. And we’re like “No! We got these after we knew Christ very well”. It always cracks me up because their faces are like (he makes a horrified face).
