I've known Heather for the past year and she's such a great lady. Since her web site is in the process of being rebuilt, you can't go read more about her and hear her amazing testimony, so I'll give you a brief synopsis. Heather was addicted to prescription drugs and, like so many people in that boat, didn't even realize it. Her addiction cost her everything - including her marriage and her self-esteem. She gave up on herself but God never gave up on her. He pulled her back to the living. While the facts of addiction are never pretty, Heather doesn't shy away from who she used to be because by seeing who she was, you can truly see how far God brought her. She gives every bit of the credit to Him and never forgets where she came from so she can use those experiences to help bring hope to others.

Kim – Hi Heather! What’s going on with you lately?

Heather – Well, God is opening awesome doors very, very quickly. We just finished recording my second album, which is actually, technically my debut release with the label, so we’re just calling it my debut album. We’re just getting all sorts of good stuff. We’re looking at signing with a bigger parent company that’s very interested in my stuff. We’re excited about that. It’s seriously amazing what has happened. I signed in August and it’s just been crazy. There are doors that we couldn’t have opened on our own. It’s just been really awesome.

Kim – What happened to the web site?

Heather – You know what? I pulled my web site down because the company has a web site and my site is being worked on.

Kim – You did the radio single and it did really well….

Heather – Was that “Tonight”? I had a single before that that did really well. “A Little Bit of Heaven” was from the first record. “Tonight” is on this record, but we actually re-cut it. It was sort of a test single. They both did really well.

Kim – “A Little Bit of Heaven” is the one that first got my attention and introduced me to you!

Heather – Oh nice! It’s so funny because that is one of my family’s favorite songs. It wasn’t one of the songs that I had always favored so much. People have such different opinions. Now sometimes I think that I do though.

Kim – You’ve come such a long way in a short time. Less than a year ago you were an indie artist that was only known in your region and now you’re signed to a label and getting ready to make your national debut.

Heather – I know! We did “Tonight” in July of last year and I hooked up with you in about August. I signed right after that with this company. It’s been a world-wind – literally.

Kim – Are you still Heather Powers and Second Chance?

Heather – My band is still my band, but we dropped Second Chance. We felt like they’re my songs and we felt like it was the best thing, less confusing thing to do. My band isn’t going anywhere. We’re so tied in together. I feel like a lot of what God is doing is because these four people are together. As you know, my former husband is one of my band mates. He’s here with his wife.

Kim – That is so unusual, ex’s working together and doing it well and without the usual and customary baggage associated with divorce.

Heather – Yeah, it’s totally unusual, but it’s part of my story of God’s grace and reconciliation.

Kim – I knew that ya’ll had stayed in touch, but I didn’t realize that he was in your band.

Heather – Yeah. We feel like we have a story to tell. So many families are falling apart, even in the church, and they are brutal towards each other. We’re not effective as a church if that’s how we’re behaving. You can’t be spiritual in some areas and be cruel and mean in others.

Kim – True. One of the things that I loved about your old web site was your testimony (which her divorce was a part of). It is just so powerful and such a great example of God’s healing powers.

Heather – It’s so funny because had these doors opened any faster or any earlier in my life I just would not have handled it well. Everything about what I’m doing I want to point back to Jesus because He has saved me from so much. And I’m so aware that none of this had anything to do with me. It’s such an awesome opportunity to tell people what he’s done.

Kim – Some people that I know in ministry in my area seem to feel like they’re supposed to be up on this pedestal, above any temptations to sin. Of course, being human means you’re going to fall, but then it’s easier to sweep it under the rug and act like it never happened than to admit frailty. I have to ask – how does that give glory to God?

Heather – It doesn’t give any.
