Barry D. was only eight years old when he began to play worship songs that he had never learned for the tiny congregation of Liberty City Church of God of Prophecy, where his grandmother, Meddie P. Bannister, served as pastor.

His mom quickly got him into formal instruction because she knew that inspiration had to be combined with discipline in order to grow. She taught him the value of good, old-fashioned hard work and it paid off in a big way. Barry was invited to attend Florida’s prestigious New World School for the Arts and he quickly worked his way up to top of his class.

From there, Barry's journey continued up, up, up. Since school he has shared the stage with Phil Collins, Natalie Grant, Jaci Velasquez, Sister Sledge and Helen Baylor; recorded with industry giants like R. Kelly, David Foster and Donna Summer; and written songs for popular recording artists like Marvin Sapp.

That success all leads back to the wonderful mother that God gave him. Barry explained, "My mom was a huge inspiration for me when I was growing up. This is where the concept for Born to Play originated. She was such a hard worker and never let any obstacles stop her from achieving her goals. She raised 9 kids on a bus driver salary. She said "all things are possible." This statement has resonated with me.
