After months in beta and a pushed back release date, Spiral Frog is live and ready to do business. The music and video download service is ad-supported rather than being a file-swapping network or one that charges a monthly or per-download fee. Members sign up for free, download the software and pick what they would like to download from more than 700,000 songs and 3,500 music videos. The only "catchs" are that members must renew their memberships every 30 days and songs can only be played on computers, digital music players (excluding iPods) and music phones. The music is encoded with Windows Digital Rights Management (DRM), making burning CDs and using certain players impossible.
