Brother's Keeper returned this summer from a mission trip to Honduras where they had joined forces with CYM. The ministry's mission is to reach the youth of Honduras, help them to become fully devoted followers of Jesus, and equip them to impact their country for Christ. They operate by three basic principles: Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Reinsertion - which are active components in every area of their ministry. Over the course of the mission trip, Brother's Keeper performed each night to a crowd of believers and non-believers alike, as well as at one of the local prisons.
"We are very grateful to God for Brother's Keeper coming to Honduras to assist us in the work of ministry. Many who would otherwise not give us attention are drawn to the Lord through their music," said Christian Youth Movement's founder Pastor Armando Meza. "We are excited about more opportunities to partner with BK, and are thankful for their support of us."
The mission trip provided the backdrop for "Passion," the debut video from Brother's Keeper's upcoming October 11, 2005 album release Beyond Beautiful, as well as footage for a DVD that is slated for 2006. "During our last trip to Honduras, where we did both outreach work and shot our latest video, we were once again impressed with Pastor Armando Meza's love for our Lord," says band member John Sanders. "Sharing the same vision for the people of Honduras, we are very pleased to give back to our Lord through the Christian Youth Movement!"
"We like what is going on in the outreach efforts in Honduras," remarks Terry Brimhall - President of Brim's Snack Foods, a prominent Memphis-based company that is co-sponsoring the golf classic. "If this tournament is as successful as planned, some of the proceeds will also help to fund scholarships for Memphis-area students."
Last year, Brother's Keeper set up a non-profit organization called BK Ministries with the purpose of using the band's resources to help equip other ministries. Last year's golf classic alone raised $10,000 for Christian Blind Mission International (CBMI), an independent Christian development organization dedicated to preventing and curing blindness, in addition to focusing on education and rehabilitation of people who are blind or have other disabilities. CMBI, which often works with CYM, donated a portion of the proceeds received to aid in the Honduras missions.
Brother's Keeper has been putting their hearts and talents out for the world to see for over a decade through live performances, including tours with the Salvador, Newsboys, Rachel Lampa, NewSong, Mark Schultz and Ginny Owens. They have also continued to catch the attention of music lovers from all over through several records including their 1999 self-titled debut and 2002's Cover Me (Compare prices), collecting two Dove Award nominations and a #1 hit radio single along the way.
