If I had to sum up the songs on I Will Praise You in one word, it would have to be reassuring. Each song is gently delivered with a such a genuine heart, that you know this isn't fluff, just recorded to remind people that she's still around. God said, "You will be my people and I will be your God" and it honestly feels like he reminded Rebecca of that statement as she recorded I Will Praise You.
My favorite track, the Celtic sounding "The Kindness of Our God" reminds listeners that Heaven and all of our rewards are not given because we've earned them, but because God is loving, merciful and kind. The bagpipes are a nice touch and not something you would expect. Other standouts for me include "You Hold Me Now," "Almighty God" and "You Make Everything Beautiful," all softly delivered with a quiet passion.
The bottom line for me is that while this isn't a "look at how far I've come in my personal walk" type of album (which one might expect after all of the changes she has been through), in a way, it does show us as much about her changes as a more personal experience album would. She's done rock, she's done pop, she's done acting and she's done writing - but at the heart of all, at the core of Rebecca St. James, lies a worshiper. I Will Praise You graciously shares those moments of time alone with God with us, the listeners.
