The National Day of Prayer will be observed on Thursday, May 6, 2006. The theme, "America, Honor God!" is based on Bible verse I Samuel 2:30, "Those who honor Me, I will honor."
Jim Weidmann, Vice Chairman of the National Day Of Prayer Task Force, says, "The National Song Search brings exciting possibilities for the observance of the National Day of Prayer in 2006. Each year, our National Day Of Prayer theme song has been a powerful way to call God's people to pray for our nation. We trust this year's song will ultimately remind all of us, 'America, Honor God!'"
Each year millions of citizens gather to pray for our government, our troops, the media and schools through thousands of observances held in cities around the country. An important element of these prayer events is the National Day Of Prayer theme song, which will be chosen through the National Song Search.
Compositions fitting the "America, Honor God" theme may be submitted through The CR Group of Brentwood, TN. Submissions will be judged only on the quality of the composition, not the vocal performance or on the production. Songs may be submitted by either first-time writers or by professionals, as long as the song has never been previously released commercially.
Deadline for song submissions is Monday, September 26, 2005.
The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America when the Continental Congress issued a proclamation setting aside a day of prayer in 1775.
