Melissa Brock, vocalist/guitarist for Superchick, shares her memories of Halloween and her thoughts on the holiday with About.com ...
- "The only Halloween that I remember celebrating is when I was about 4. It was before my parents were saved, and we were allowed to celebrate it. Ironically enough, I dressed up as a witch. After that it was a no-go. I also remember in 2nd grade for Halloween they were having us draw pictures for it and then we were going to put them on the wall for the parent conference. I told the teacher that I wasn’t allowed to celebrate it, and so she had me draw some other picture, which was fine. The sad part was when she put my picture on a separate wall than the other kids' drawings. My point is...maybe let your kids do the dress up and candy part because kids may not understand why they aren’t allowed to do that. And then teach them why the actual holiday is not something they should celebrate. I know I’m dressing up this year and so is my little dog. I’m going to make up for all the candy I missed out on as a kid."

- "I wasn’t allowed to dress up or go trick-or-treating. Our family did have a regular Halloween tradition though – it was a progressive dinner. We picked eight or nine different restaurants and we stopped by a different one for each course … like nachos here or salads there and then entrée and desserts. Then at the end of the night, we stopped at Toys–R-Us to get candy or whatever we wanted."

- "We had a Halloween alternative at my church. We had a fall festival with games, cake walks, candy, face painting and that fundraiser where you can put someone in jail and they have to pay their way out. I remember putting the pastor’s daughter in jail one year ... she got so mad at me. It was always a good time."
