Stellar Kart's fourth studio album,
Everything Is Different Now, has a whole lot of different going. First, guitarist Cody Pellerin has been replaced by former Dizmas guitarist Jon Howard. Second, their label is now INO records instead of
Word. Finally, the wide-open pop/punk sound that they rocked for their first three releases has been toned down to a more mature and easier pop/worship sound.
To be honest, when I first heard that they were getting all mellow on me, I was worried. However, after hearing Everything Is Different Now, I can officially say that I like the new sound.
Everything may be different, but the message hasn't changed a bit
As a band and as individuals, the SK guys may grow and change, but in the beginning their heart was for the youth of the church and that is one thing that hasn't changed a bit. The messages found in the lyrics are not a bit vague or wishy-washy. These guys are talking about Jesus ... plain and simple.
In a climate where teens are being bombarded by lyrics like...
"But if you come to the crib,
Then i might show you girls a thang or 2" - from "How Low" by Ludacris
and
"Used to rock a throwback, ballin on the corner
Now I rock a teller suit looking like a owner
No I'm not a Jonas brother I’m a grown up
No I’m not a virgin I use my cahonas" - from "On Tco The Next One" by Jay-Z
... having songs that are about Christ, performed by young guys that the teens can relate to - well, that is worth much more than the price of a CD.
Grown up, but not too much
The members of Stellar Kart are grown now, but not too grown. In other words, they may have slowed down on a few songs, but there are still some upbeat, fun rockers in the mix. From their original tunes to the covers, they do them all well and deliver them in a memorable way that will please SK fans and new listeners alike.
