2010 offered up plenty of good Christian music from old favorites and new faces as well. The Top 40 Christian Hits of 2010 comes from charts like R&R, Billboard, and of course, About.com, and is based on how many weeks any given song stayed in the Top 10.
1. "Get Back Up" - tobyMac
The second single to hit the Top 10 from tobyMac's Tonight stayed in the chart for 22 weeks, making it the #1 song of 2010! This tune epitomizes the fact that as sinners, we will fall, so the question isn't will we fall or will we walk without stumbling. The question is "What will you do after you fall?" The answer should always be "Get Back Up."
2. "Born Again" - Newsboys
The 2nd most popular song of the year is the title track from Born Again, which hit shelves on July 13th. The first original Newsboys song with Michael Tait on the mic lets us know that this band still has plenty to say and a great way to say it!
3. "All of Creation" - MercyMe
From The Generous Mr. Lovewell, which hits stores on May 4th, "All of Creation" sat in the Top 10 for 19 weeks. This powerful worship song gained amazing momentum at radio and will probably be another MercyMe classic.
4. "Lead Me" - Sanctus Real
"Lead Me" comes from Pieces of a Real Heart and we spent 17 weeks seeing it in the Top 10. Written by Matt in response to his wife's plea that he become a stronger spiritual leader of their household, this song is powerful stuff.
5. "Our God" - Chris Tomlin
One of Chris Tomlin's many contributions on Passion: Awakening, "Our God" could easily be named one of the anthems for the 2010 church. What do you think?
6. "What Faith Can Do" - Kutless
"What Faith Can Do" debuted in 2009 with a bang that took it to number one on iTunes’ top Christian songs and saw it spending a total of 34 weeks in the Top 10 between 2009 and 2010. The original song from It Is Well, the band's second worship album, reminds us that our faith is the one thing that can get us through when we can't find the answers on our own.
7. "If We've Ever Needed You" - Casting Crowns
"If We've Ever Needed You" was the second single release from Until The Whole World Hears. Musically, this is the same Casting Crowns we've come to know and love. Lyrically it is too --- and that is the saving grace here for me.
8. "Light Up The Sky" - The Afters
We first heard "Light Up The Sky" on the popular MTV show “The Hills” last summer. It then appeared on the band's EP as well as on the full-length CD, Light Up The Sky, which hit stores last September.
9. "They That Wait" - Fred Hammond f/ John P. Kee
The 9th most popular song of 2010, "They That Wait" is pure bounce in your seat, wiggle your feet music.
10. "Before the Morning" - Josh Wilson
"Before the Morning" first came to our attention in 2009 from the Life Is Not A Snapshot EP. This hope filled tune reminds us that life is bigger than our here and now.
