Top Christian Songs

For the week ending August 14, 2011

By

Chris Tomlin came into the Top 10 this week with a new song and shot straight to the top! More new music from RED, Earnest Pugh and The Museum joined him and there is something on the list for everyone.

The official Top Christian Hits Chart is compiled by checking and averaging Christian charts and top play lists from all over the U.S. such as Billboard, Cashbox and Air 1 to find the most popular songs.

1. "I Lift My Hands" - Chris Tomlin

Chris Tomlin - And If Our God Is For Us
EMI

Debuting this week, the second radio single from And If Our God Is For Us... has shot straight to the top. This is classic Chris Tomlin folks! Co-written with Louie Giglio, this song is powerful stuff.

2. "Move" - MercyMe

MercyMe - The Generous Mr. Lovewell
INO Records

Coming from The Generous Mr. Lovewell, this tune has a very Sgt. Pepper (Bee Gees version) sound, taking listeners back to the 80s.

3. "Reach" - Peter Furler

Peter Furler - On Fire
Sparrow Records

Peter Furler's first single as a solo act debuted seven weeks ago on the Weekly Top 10 at #7 and it is moving up. Fun, but with meaning, the song reminds listeners that God reaches for us all of the time.

4. "You Love Me Anyway" - Sidewalk Prophets

Sidewalk Prophets - These Simple Truths
Word Records

"You Love Me Anyway" hit the chart eight weeks ago and shot straight to the top before starting to slide down. From the band's debut album, These Simple Truths, the country sounding ballad is a little slice of different from their pop sound.

5. "Hold Me" - Jamie Grace f/ tobyMac

Jamie Grace - Hold Me
Gotee Records

"Hold Me," which we first saw 11 weeks ago, is a tune that comes from newcomer and tobyMac find, Jamie Grace. If you've ever wondered what would happen if you threw pop, hip hop and R&B into a blender and served it up with charm and an acoustic guitar, you've found it with the fun "Hold Me."

6. "The Way" - Jeremy Camp

Jeremy Camp - We Cry Out: The Worship Project
BEC Recordings

Moving down from #3 and slowing things down a bit. Jeremy Camp's latest single, "The Way," is from his 2010 release, We Cry Out: The Worship Project.  The song was co-written with his brother-in-law, Brad Peens, and it has a real anthem feel to it.

7. "Feed The Machine" - RED

RED - Until We Have Faces
Provident

Debuting this week, "Feed The Machine" is the second radio single from RED's Until We Have Faces. Growls punctuate the rocker while the lyrics share the dangers of conforming to the world.

8. "I Need Your Glory" - Earnest Pugh

Earnest Pugh - Earnestly Yours
Worldwide Music

Debuting this week, "I Need Your Glory" comes to us from Earnestly Yours. If you are looking for traditional gospel that will move you to tears, look no farther than right here.

9. "Allelujah" - The Museum

The Museum - Let Love Win
BEC Recordings

Our last new song this week comes to us from the 2010 release, Let Love Win. You may not normally associate The Museum with "worship" music, but after hearing this beautiful song, you will have to rethink that position. Ben Richter delivers the perfect vocal storm here as the music ebbs and swells.

10. "Strong Enough" - Matthew West

Matthew West - The Story Of Your Life
Sparrow Records

We first heard our last song in this week's countdown four weeks ago. The latest from Matthew West's The Story of Your Life, "Strong Enough" gives us everything Matthew West has gotten us used to where his music is concerned ... great vocals, perfect timing and lyrics that resonate with our hearts.
