The official Top 10 Weekly Christian hit songs list is compiled by your Guide by checking and averaging Christian charts from all over the U.S. such as Billboard and R&R.
In the first Weekly Top 10 of 2009, Brandon Heath and tobyMac start the new year much like they ended 2008 ... on top. New music from Red, Jamie Slocum, Meredith Andrews and Mandisa adds diversity to the mix and we're off to a good start.
1. "Give Me Your Eyes" - Brandon Heath
"Give Me Your Eyes," which was the #8 song for 2008, is off of Brandon's latest release, What If We, which hit stores on August 19, 2008. A soft melody carries a big stick on this tune.
2. "Lose My Soul" - tobyMac f/ Kirk Franklin & Mandisa
"Lose My Soul," from Portable Sounds, features Kirk Franklin and Mandisa as well as lyrics that let you know, beyond doubt, just how sincere about living his life to God's standards tobyMac really is. This song came in at #17 in the Top 40 Songs of 2008.
3. "There Will Be a Day" - Jeremy Camp
This powerful and passionate song, which was the 29th most popular Christian song of 2008, comes to us from Jeremy's new release, Speaking Louder Than Before. The song has set a ton of records at radio and once you hear it, you'll certainly understand why. Outstanding!
4. "Fight Inside" - Red
Debuting this week, "Fight Inside" is the first single release off of the upcoming Innocence & Instinct, which will hit stores on February 10, 2009. All about the temptation that lives inside of each of us and how we have to actively fight it off, this song rocks.
5. "I Trust You" - James Fortune & FIYA
"I Trust You" is off of the April 2007 release, The Transformation and it was the 26th most popular song of 2008. With a very Kirk Franklin-ish type of sound, this song (and the wonderful vocals and harmonies) soars.
6. "Whatever You're Doing" - Sanctus Real
"Whatever You're Doing" is a great song about finding your purpose in life off of the band's latest release, We Need Each Other.
7. "Dependence" - Jamie Slocum
Debuting this week, this single from Jamie Slocum is beautiful and you'll find it touching you to the depths of your spirit.
8. "You Invite Me In" - Meredith Andrews
Debuting this week, "You Invite Me In" is off of The Invitation and this young worship leader nails every note perfectly.
9. "Jesus Messiah" - Chris Tomlin
"Jesus Messiah," which came in at #7 in the Top 40 Songs of 2008, is off of Chris Tomlin's 2008 release Hello Love. This song released to radio on June 13th and it was the most added song on Christian Adult Contemporary, Christian Hit Radio, and Christian Inspirational radio that week, with 97 total adds, (according to Radio & Records).
