Weekly Top 10 Christian Music Hits

For the Week Ending June 7, 2009

By Kim Jones, About.com

The official Top 10 Weekly Christian hit songs list is compiled by your Guide by checking and averaging Christian charts from all over the U.S. such as Billboard.

Francesca Battistelli and Tenth Avenue North sit on top this week while new music comes in from Mandisa and Jimmy Needham.

1. "Free To Be Me" - Francesca Battistelli

Francesca Battistelli - My Paper HeartFervent Records
After debuting 18 weeks ago, this song moved up the charts like a bullet and now sits at number 1. The upbeat "Free To Be Me" is the second radio release from My Paper Heart to make the Top 10.

2. "By Your Side" - Tenth Avenue North

Tenth Avenue North - Over and UnderneathIntegrity
"By Your Side," which debuted last November, is the second radio single from the Dove New Artist of the Year's debut album, Over and Underneath. With very Jon Forman sounding vocals, the song is written from the perspective of Jesus himself, and asks some hard questions about why we don't seem to feel like he's enough.

3. "The Motions" - Matthew West

Matthew West - Something To SaySparrow
The last single release from Something To Say spent 20 weeks in the Top 10 and was the #1 song of 2008. Does "The Motions," a powerful song about living your life instead of just going through the motions, have what it takes to do as well as "You Are Everything?" With this song being in the top 3 on four different charts again this week, I would have to say yes!

4. "My Deliverer" - Mandisa

Mandisa - FreedomSparrow Records
Debuting this week, "My Deliverer" combines soul with rock, R&B and a touch of pop, adds in zest, zing and energy, and tops it off with pure joy to create an anthem fit for the church of today and the youth of tomorrow.

5. "Two Hands" - Jars of Clay

Jars Of Clay - The Long Fall Back To EarthEssential Records
"Two Hands" comes from The Long Fall Back To Earth. This pop tune, which debuted two weeks ago, is easy to relate to, as it is all about our battles with the temptations of the world and how hard it can be to surrender.

6. "In The Hands of God" - Newsboys

Newsboys - In The Hands of GodInpop
"In The Hands of God," which we first saw five weeks ago, is the title track from the latest Newsboys release. Very upbeat and positive, this song is a highlight of the album.

Big Daddy Weave - What Life Would Be LikeFervent
"You Found Me," which we first saw five weeks ago, kicks into high gear and doesn't slow down a bit. Off of last summer's What Life Would Be Like, this song will be a favorite for this summer season.

8. "Finally Home" - MercyMe

MercyMe - All That Is Within MeINO
"Finally Home" is the latest single release from All That Is Within Me and this is the 15th week we've seen it. Bart Millard's favorite song on the album because it reminds him of the day that he'll get to see his dad again, this emotional tune resonates with listeners because we all have loved ones that we long to see again.

Our second newcomer this week is Jimmy Needham with "Forgiven and Loved" from the 5-star Not Without Love. A song with great meaning and a strong message, this tune is one of my personal favorites.
