Top 10 Weekly Christian Music Hits

For the Week Ending August 19, 2007

By Kim Jones, About.com

The official Top 10 Christian hit songs list is compiled by your Guide by checking and averaging Christian charts from all over the U.S. such as Billboard and R&R.

MercyMe and Casting Crowns hold on to the top spots, but the rest of the Top 10 is all over the spectrum. New music from Marvin Sapp, BarlowGirl, Chris Tomlin and MXPX show that this week, there are plenty of different styles of music to choose from.

1. Bring the Rain - MercyMe

MercyMe - Coming Up To BreatheCourtesy of: INO Records
This beautiful ballad debuted six weeks ago as another notch in the MercyMe belt. This week it finally takes the top spot.

2. "East to West" - Casting Crowns

Casting Crowns - The Altar and the DoorBeach Street Records
This beautiful song, off of the upcoming Casting Crowns release, The Altar and The Door, is one of my favorites. The usual fare from Casting Crowns, "East to West" boasts deep, meaningful lyrics, a perfect blend on the vocals and sterling musicianship. After only three weeks in the Top 10, this song has already moved up to the number two slot and it shows great promise for seeing number one before long.

"I'm For You" is toby's latest, off of the Portable Sounds album and it debuted six weeks ago. With a cool pop groove and the usual musical excellence, this is one of my favorite songs on the release.

5. Evil - A Chorus of Resistance - Project 86

Project 86 - Rival FactionsTooth & Nail
"Evil," which debuted seven weeks ago, is off of the 2007 release Rival Factions. Interesting song ... interesting album.

6. "The Last Night" - Skillet

Skillet - ComatoseCourtesy of: Lava/Atlantic and Ardent/SRE
21 weeks in the Top 10 isn't anything to sneeze at, but then again, we are talking about "The Last Night!" The second radio release off of Comatose rocks ... just like every song on the album!

7. The Blessing - John Waller

John Waller - The BlessingProvident
The title track off of John Waller's CD features Mark Hall and is modern worship at its finest. We first saw this tune seven weeks ago and are likely to be hearing it for many more weeks to come.

8. Here's My Life - BarlowGirl

BarlowGirl - How Can We Be SilentFervent Records
Debuting this week, "Here's My Life" is the first radio release off of BarlowGirl's third release, How Can We Be Silent. This slower, acoustic ballad offers up the same perfect harmonies we've come to expect from the Barlow sisters, as well as relevant subject matter ... something else we can always count on them to deliver.

9. "Glory In The Highest" - Chris Tomlin

Chris Tomlin - See The MorningCourtesy of: EMI
Debuting this week, "Glory In The Highest" is the third radio single off of See The Morning. As soft and gentle as it is powerful, this is yet another winner from Chris Tomlin.

10. You're On Fire - MXPX

MXPX - Secret WeaponTooth & Nail
Debuting this week, "You're On Fire" is off of Secret Weapon, MXPX's eighth studio album. The classic MXPX energy makes this tune about revving up your faith one of the standouts on the release.
