Matt Redman - Blessed Be Your Name: Songs of Matt Redman Vol. 1

Updated January 24, 2007
Songwriter and worship leader Matt Redman is getting ready to release his first collection of key worship songs entitled Blessed Be Your Name: Songs of Matt Redman Vol. 1 on July 19, 2005.

The album is a compilation of Redman’s top songs, together on one CD for the first time. Seven songs on Blessed Be Your Name written by Redman currently appear on the Top 200 CCLI chart, including “The Heart of Worship,” “Better Is One Day” and “Let Everything That Has Breath.” The title track, “Blessed Be Your Name,” is the song that earned Redman his first GMA/Dove Award (this year) for Worship Song of the Year.

Leading a generation of worshipers, Matt's songs have been recorded by artists such as Kathryn Scott, Michael W. Smith, Rebecca St. James, Tree 63, Kutless and several others.

“I can look back on the past few years of writing songs and see what God has been doing in my life,” says Redman. “It’s a bit like journaling. It’s just part of me and it’s how I let my heart overflow before God. But on top of that, when you’ve poured out your heart to God in a little room somewhere, and then one day you visit a church in another country and they’re singing your song, it’s a great encouragement because ultimately that’s what the songs are for.”

A companion book by Matt Redman and his wife Beth, also titled Blessed Be Your Name, will release in August from Regal Books. In the book the Redmans will "explore their songs through the Psalms to show how to stand in the place of praise in the midst of life's ups and downs." They share their own experiences and show how painful circumstances and our own choices can either move us toward God or away from Him, build up our faith or break it.
