Evans is the son of Dr. Tony Evans (Pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas and President of The Urban Alternative) and is a second-generation minister as well as a performer. Evans grew up singing in the church and decided to make it a career, gaining such notable fans as Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams and Franklin Graham, to name just a few.
Explaining the theme of Letting Go, Evans says, I hope people can hear this album and gain confidence and assurance in the relationship they have with God, knowing Gods arms are securely around them and He is never letting go. This record is about trusting God absolutely, and understanding the magnitude of the hope we have through the sacrifice Christ made.
Produced by Matt Bronleewe and Nathan Nockels, Evans co-wrote nine of the albums ten songs, partnering with writers like Ben Glover, Jason Ingram, Chad Cates, Matthew West and Michael Boggs. The songs written for Letting Go represent a transformation Evans experienced as he struggled last year with his call to represent Christ in music ministry.
Ive realized more concretely that God doesnt want anything from me when it comes to the performance thing, Evans explains. All I need to do is give him my heart. God created me this way and God unconditionally loves me. I better recognize what Gods love truly means.
The projects title track, Letting Go, is a song that assures listeners that God stands fast beside them in difficult times. The single Meaningless recognizes the reality of humanitys sinful condition, while the ballad Whatever I Cant Erase shows another face of Gods creative redemption. Closing the record is Youre My God, a track witnessing to Gods character as being one of strict faithfulness. The powerful anthem, I Choose Now, is the records first single.
Letting Go follows Evans successful 2005 touring season as he received high praise while on the road with friends FFH and Matthew West. Evans was also a regular performer during last years Promise Keepers events, as well as sharing the stage with his father at numerous conferences held nationwide in many of Americas largest churches. He launched his solo career two years ago by releasing Even More, on the heels of several performances with industry superstars Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams and Donnie McClurkin. Anthony received his break into professional music singing backing vocals for Franklin, who has since become a friend and mentor.
In the coming year, Evans will join David Phelps and Ana Laura on a 30-city spring tour and plans to continue to team up with Dr. Evans at conference events. Evans is ready to tour his new project so he can spread to others the hope-filled message hes personally experienced.
I hope that people will be really encouraged through this record, Evans says. I hope they will take away a new perspective on their journey, that wherever they are now is a single page in their story, we already know its going to have a good ending, and that God is never letting go of them.
