"One Last Christmas" - Matthew West

Matthew West - One Last ChristmasMatthew West was inspired to write "One Last Christmas" after hearing the story of Dax Locke.  Dax was born on June 26, 2007. At the age of 13 months, he was diagnosed  with AML M7 Leukemia. Last year, five days after Christmas, Dax lost his battle  (at the age of two and a half). Dax's love of Christmas and his wish to live to see one more motivated St. Jude's Hospital, his hometown of Washington, Illinois and people all over the world to "decorate for Dax" in September so that he could enjoy an early Christmas. People put up their Christmas trees, hung Christmas lights and made sign's for Dax and then submitted the photos to www.decoratefordax.com. Dax did hold on and he lived to see one last Christmas, passing away on December 30, 2009.

The care that Dax received at St. Jude's was so wonderful that his parents have pledged to raise $1.6 million (the cost to run the hospital for a single day). To do this, they have started "Cherish Every Moment-The Dax Locke Foundation." So far, they raised almost a quarter of million dollars! You can help too by visiting the foundation.

This song brought me to tears. There was a 13 yr old boy here in Northwest Ohio who recently passed from an aggressive form of brain cancer. Except for the dates, this song could have been his story. The town came together and decorated for Christmas. They even brought in snow from a local skating rink to make it snow outside his window. He taught us all that every day is a gift from God and we should never take anything we have for granted.
