If you want to be saturated with a sense of peace that brings you closer to the Throne with every breath, Phillips, Craig & Dean is definitely a group for you. The three pastors and close friends' 13th release, Breathe In, is them worshiping and sharing those moments with us, the listeners. Drenched with harmonies that sound like they were orchestrated in Heaven, this release is their best so far (and that's saying a lot - they did, after all, win the Dove Award for Inspirational Album of the Year in 2010 for Fearless).

Randy Phillips, Shawn Craig, and Dan Dean didn't turn modern worship on its ear with Breathe In. They didn't create any new instruments to use or talk God into sending actual angels down to sing background vocals. They simply did what they've been doing quite well for 21 years ... make really good music that doesn't need a ton of bells and whistles to hit the mark and worship our risen Savior. The authentic worship that you hear on this album is all the more potent and powerful because it's so real.
Opener "Great and Glorious" gives you a solid idea of what the CD is about - our great and glorious God. With an upbeat tempo, the song slides a surprise into the chorus with background vocals that sound like they're coming from the 22nd or 23rd century. While the use of special effects like that aren't the first thing you think of when you think PCD, it works and is a special surprise that shows us they're not trapped in any boxes with their music.
The first radio single, "When The Stars Burn Down," also happens to be my favorite track. When Rebecca St. James covered it on her 2011 release, I Will Praise You, I fell in love. The Phillips, Craig And Dean version, to my ear, is even better and I love it even more.
Songs like "Speechless" are modest in the lyrics, delivered with a musical punch that sneaks up on you.
- You leave us speechless, breathless
Jesus, worthy, worthy
There is no one like You, God
No one like You, God
Closer, "All Is Well" is simply divine with a message that reminds us that no matter what is going on in life or the world, as long as we have Jesus in our lives, all is truly well. Being a simple message doesn't make it any less true and that's one message that we could all stand to be reminded of on a daily basis.
Bottom line here - If you're looking for an album that goes 100 mph from start to finish, Breathe In is not for you. However, if you are one who likes music that will inspire you while opening your heart to worship (just in a softer, easier way), you'll be a huge fan.
