J. Moss - The J. Moss Project

J. Moss - The J. Moss Project

Born and raised in Detroit as James Moss, the son of Gospel star Bill Moss, Sr., James spent much of his childhood on tours with his father's group, Bill Moss and the Celestials, and his cousins, the Clark Sisters. As a teen, Moss and his brother Bill Jr. formed The Moss Brothers. They recorded two major label albums during their seven years together. During this time J was developing his talent as a songwriter and keyboardist while learning the business side of music. He attended Michigan State University for two years, but his desire to write music and perform was too great, and he left.

Once back in Detroit, J signed with a local Christian label and released two albums which weren't very successful. He met Paul Allen and Walter Kearney, and the three began working together as a production team called PAJAM. Moss spent the mid-90s touring with the Clark Sisters, and was signed, along with Karen Clark-Sheard, to Island Records in 1996 to record a solo album. While his album didn't get much acclaim, Clark's album, which was produced in part by PAJAM, was a hit and the Gospel world stood up and took notice of PAJAM.

Over the next seven years, the PAJAM team became the hitmakers of Gospel music and Moss became successful beyond his wildest dreams. But his desire to perform never quite went away, and in 2003 he and Paul Allen began writing songs for what would become The J Moss Project, which was released in September 2004 on Gospo Centric Records.
