The Immortals - Walk on Water

The Immortals
The Immortals is a diverse group of individuals that demonstrate God's unerring ability to accomplish any goal HE chooses. They perform for Believers (to encourage and uplift) and to non-believers and those seeking the truth. The Immortals is made up of Keith Johnson (guitar), Kelly Johnson (vocals, sax), Tom Curcuru (bass) and David Fair (drums) and they call Detroit home.

The Tracks - The Immortals - 'Walk On Water'

  1. "Walk On Water" - If you like R&B, you'll love this song. Musically solid, vocally expressive and a saxophone solo that is awesome add up to make a very cool song.
  2. "Work For You" - This song, musically, could have been written by Huey Lewis and the News. It just has that flare to it. The song also contains lyrics that are very relateable to everday Christians. Overall - a well rounded tune.
  3. "Eternal Love" - The way the vocals come through in this song really showcase Kelly's abilities. Musically, very uniquely put together - sort of "waltzy" but with a bit of blues mixed in. The sax adds a very professional edge to it.
  4. "I Talk to Jesus" - This one will take you back to the 70's with the retro feel it brings to the table. It's definitely one of those "happy" songs. The lyrics are testimonial, which is always nice to hear.
  5. "Holy Redeemer" - One of my favorites on the CD. The best way to describe this song is Chuck Berry meets Eddie Rabbit - with a sax thrown into the mix. I like the way it's put together, and the lyrics are challenging and point to a practical solution - Jesus.
  6. "Only Takes A Minute" - Which one of you is Jamaican? The vocals are of that style and the lyrics point clearly to Jesus.
  • "You Are the Reason" - I have always liked jazz, so this song was a musical treat for me. Vocally, it steps up to the plate and gets the job done. Tracy Chapman ... eat your heart out!
  • "Hand on Me" - This song's lyrics paraphrase Psalm 23 and the way the lyrics goes with the music is done well. It also showcases the saxophone, blending it well with the rest of the music.
  • "Our Mighty God" - If you mixed the music of Michael Bolton and Dire Straits, you would get the sound of this song. The vocals and the saxophone are prominent, but don't overpower. As always, great lyrics.
  • "What A Friend" - A traditional hymn done R&B style - and done well.
  • "Set Free" - The music in this song will remind you of the background music played in an old western movie; so if you like westerns, this song may appeal to you. It keeps the lyrics consistent with the rest of the album - very solid.
  • "Amazing Grace" - Another traditional hymn that has a folk flare with a touch of cajun blended with it.
  • "Job" - A song that puts Job's story out of the Bible to music. Quite interestingly put together.

  • The Immortals - 'Walk On Water' - The Bottom Line

Overall, I liked this album. I have to say that the talent of this band, musically, would be difficult to challenge. They are tight and perform all different styles of music perfectly. The lyrical content is unmistakeably sincere and comes from deep spiritual growth and awesome changes in the life of the songwriter. If you like variety shows, you will love this CD. It truly has something for everyone.
