The first "Queen of Gospel Music," Mahalia Jackson, only saw a handful of albums released during her lifetime, but since her death in 1972, over 90 Mahalia Jackson albums have hit stores. The gospel legend was also honored with several posthumous awards, including being inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Grammy Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She was also honored by the U.S. Postal Service in 1998 with a 32¢ postage stamp.
Mahalia's contributions to gospel music are still listened to today and her Christmas releases still help make the season special.
