The goal of the Mobilization area was to share information, to increase awareness, and to unify and connect students with the opportunities available to them here and around the globe through an easy-to-navigate presentation.
The Mobilization area is right smack in the middle of everything so you can just walk through there and see what Gods heart is for all peoples, said Louie Giglio, Passion founder. He continued, Were not putting missions in a back room somewhere as an ancillary elective to the Christian life. But were putting Mobilization front and center because we believe everyone is called to Gods global purpose. Its designed not so that you have to go booth to booth and put stuff in a bag; its designed to have conversations with people who know about opportunities around the world that can connect students with what God is doing.
Throughout the general sessions, Passion told the story of taking the Passion Experience to college students in Boston and New York, and Giglio offered another opportunity for students to share globally. We want to target cities where people wouldnt normally go to do something like the Passion Experience tour. We feel God telling us that its time to launch out and take Passion to the world.
Students also had the opportunity during the evenings general session to offer money to help take what they experienced at Passion '05 to the world, with a significant portion of these monies designated to help tsunami relief efforts in Sri Lanka. Evangelical churches in the area will receive and dispurse the money collected for relief and ministry operations.
David Crowder Band opened the morning general session in worship and as John Piper finished the mornings message, Chris Tomlin was joined by Steven Curtis Chapman to share Chapmans song Much of You, inspired by Pipers book, Dont Waste Your Life.
Students also heard from Commander Christopher Plekenpol, who is currently serving in Iraq. A believer in the message of Passion, Commander Plekenpol joined Passion '05 via satellite and shared his experience and prayer requests. Commander Plekenpol and Passion '05 attendees were able to pray together during the satellite feed.
The final evening of Passion '05 began with Charlie Hall in worship and flowed into Giglios instructional message to attendees to stop sinning and believing the lie that anything is better than Jesus. You are free from the ball and chain. There is therefore now no condemnation. You think you have to carry your shame all the way to the grave but you dontits already been nailed to the cross of Christ.
As the general session moved into community groups, Giglio asked students to return to the arena afterward in complete silence for a special Late Nite Sessiona time of reflection and worship with David Crowder Band, Chris Tomlin and Shane and Shane.
