The Album, This Generation invites people everywhere to worship God, which is the fundamental purpose of our existence. Lead singer Rick Heil said in a press release that he hopes that this project will encourage people to remember that "God’s heart is truly good and He is more in love with us than we will ever know." Heil continued, "Although it is a simple concept, during difficult circumstances we tend to doubt God’s heart and forget He’s faithfulness. The Lord says that He will never leave us or forsake us."
The Goodness of God
Understanding God’s goodness is something Heil has experienced first-hand and recently as he was healed from Crohn’s disease, a painful intestinal disorder he’s lived with for years. People with this disease normally suffer with it for life; yet, last March Heil underwent treatment and surgery to repair some scarring issues and doctors discovered he no longer had any signs of the disease to treat. For many years, Heil praised God through his pain, and he is estatic that the Lord has been faithrul and has given him back his health. No matter how he’s doing physically, however, Heil knows it’s easy to give in to doubt, to believe that God doesn’t have our best interests at heart. That is where the concept behind This Generation was born.
"I think worship is the strongest tool we have in fighting those negative messages," Heil says. "You are what you’re filled with. The great thing about music is it is always available. If you feel overwhelmed by this life, you can crank up the tunes and let the Lord minister to you and get refocused."
For this album, SONICFLOOd teamed up with three different producers, Marc Byrd (City On A Hill: The Gathering), Jim Cooper (Building 429, Across the Sky) and Dan Muckala (Mandy Moore, Joy Williams). Heil also worked with Cooper and Regie Hamm for the track "The Prodigal Song," which is a reminder of how much God loves us. The song, “Your Love Goes On Forever,” is truly the theme behind this CD, “For all You’ve done/ And your infinite love/ We lift our hearts to worship/ For Your sweet grace/ We lift Your name/ Let Your praise go on and on forever more.”
"People underestimate this generation," Heil says. "They want the Truth…people want what’s real, what is eternal! Our enemy is hard at work and he is focused. There’s no time to play around!"
